Rowing At Emanuel

The UnstoppablesThe Boat Club has a long tradition of successful competition at the highest level, with many Senior boys gaining some kind of International representation by the end of their final year at Emanuel.

The Club is equipped with its own boathouse located at Barnes Bridge, which is well stocked with a large fleet of boats. The Club has a full time Boatman who is responsible for the upkeep of the fleet as well as other duties.

The Good Old DaysAll pupils at Emanuel are taken to the Club for eight weekly stints throughout year 8 to get a taste of rowing. By year 9 pupils are able to choose to carry on with rowing as their main sport and a squad is selected to train, and represent the School. The girls are lucky enough to have rowing as their main sport during the spring term so that in years 7 and 8 they will each undertake a full term of rowing before they can elect to continue in year 9.

The pupils are coached by a team of two professional coaches who are supported by teaching staff as well as 'old boys' who give up their time to the training of these athletes. Training throughout the Club is progressive; starting with year 9 training four times a week right through to the Seniors who train about eight times each week.

Presently there is a great deal of enthusiasm in the Club, no doubt fired by recent successes in the Olympics, and this will be channeled by the coaches towards success in the Head races of the Spring, and the Regattas of the Summer.
